Our California expansion
The firm has welcomed nine partners, 17 further fee-earners and nine non-legal professionals to its California team, providing a huge boost to the size and services of Withers' US practice. The arrival of the new team sees the firm open offices in Los Angeles, San Diego and Rancho Santa Fe to provide trusts and estate planning and litigation, business succession, philanthropy, art and probate advice to individuals and families across the state.
The majority of the new team joins Withers from the Private Client Services Group at McKenna Long & Aldridge and is made up of some of the leading trusts and estate planning, charitable giving and trusts and estate litigation lawyers in California. The California practice is further enhanced by the arrival of counsel Christine Steiner who joins the firm from Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton and partner Michael Brophy who joins from Russ August & Kabat.
Withers has been developing its presence in California since opening in San Francisco in January 2014, and has added corporate, real estate and estate planning partners to the team over the course of the year. The new additions to Withers' West Coast capabilities greatly advance this growth, providing a strong base for further consolidation.
Heading up the new Rancho Santa Fe office will be partners Steve Chidester, Jeremy Crickard, Michelle Graham and Fred Vandeveer, who advise on estate planning, succession planning and charitable giving.
The San Diego office will be led by partners Carol Kao and Jeremiah Moffit, working with of counsel Mary Gillick who will lead the trust and estate litigation team. Carol focuses on family wealth transfers, estate planning and charitable giving, whilst Jeremy is a trust and estate litigator.
The Los Angeles office will be headed by Elizabeth Bawden who advises clients on family wealth transfers, estate planning, charitable giving and family private foundations. Elizabeth is joined by Michael Brophy who focuses on trust, estate, fiduciary and succession litigation. Mike has worked closely with Elizabeth and Mary in the past and also has broad experience in complex business litigation, probate litigation, IP, entertainment and employment law. Christine Steiner will bolster Withers' art law practice through her experience of advising on intellectual property, visual arts transactions and general arts business matters.
Diana Hastings joins the firm's San Francisco office and focuses on domestic and cross-border estate planning and estate and trust administration.
